Daisuke
Tsutsumi

Who is Daisuke Tsutsumi ?

Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Daisuke moved to New York in 1993 where he enrolled at the School of Visual Arts. He graduated in 1998.

Career

Daisuke started his career as a staff illustrator for Lucas Learning Ltd. in San Francico. Two years later, he moved back to NY to work for Blue Sky Studios as a visual development/color key artist on their film projects such as Ice Age, Robots and Horton Hears A Who. In 2007, he accepted the new challenge to join as an art director at Pixar Animation Studios. Dice was the color and lighting art director of Pixar’s latest feature Toy Story 3. His first children’s book I can Hear was published in Japan 2009.

Sketchtravel contribution #69

Daisuke was under a lot of pressure when he drew in Sketchtravel : not only could he see the 68 drawings done before him, but he also knew he would be followed by two of his masters : Frédéric Back and Hayao Miyazaki. His drawing is a painted collage of previous drawings which forms a monster, and a little boy facing the monster. The light gives a very strong atmosphere to the scene.
