John Howe was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1957. He graduated from the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg, France.
John Howe is best known for his work based on Tolkien's worlds. John Howe and Alan Lee were the lead artists of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. Howe also re-illustrated the maps of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion. His work includes images of myths such as the Anglo Saxon legend of Beowulf. He lives in Neuchâtel, in Switzerland.
